The Deep End
This has been a strange week.
It had me thinking about things that I don’t normally think about and worrying about things that I never expected to. Let me backtrack a little.
I had that dentist appointment I mentioned on Wednesday, and every summer I like to take a walk by the water because it’s right across the street from the St. Clair River. Usually I only spend a few minutes there, but for some unbeknownst reason I have become very interested in boats and was hoping to spot one…
Dredge Bardge on the St. Clair River
I was hoping to see a freighter, but instead I found myself watching a working boat. Instead of staying for my usual few minutes, I spent nearly an hour just watching it. I kept thinking about the people onboard, their lives, and how different they are from mine. They put themselves in dangerous situations every day. They disappear from ordinary life for weeks or months at a time.
I found myself wondering how lonely that life must sometimes be, how frightening. How vulnerable the people onboard must feel in certain moments. It’s not like waking up Monday through Friday and going into the office, or having the luxury of working from home. Knowing you are sleeping in a comfortable bed on land. It can be scary, and I give those people so much credit for working a job their whole lives that many of us couldn’t even do for a day.
It’s funny how one unexpected moment can color an entire week. I found myself looking at everything a little different after that.
Anyway, I didn’t have aerial again last week because of all the wildfires in Canada. The air quality here was too bad for the studio to be open. Fingers crossed that everything goes as planned this week because I’m going on three weeks without being in the air and I feel it! Wednesday and Thursday night is the plan this week, so I’m sure by Friday I won’t be able to move but I’m okay with that.
My weekly spread, it actually looks pretty good!
My weekly spread feels encouraging, too. There’s a strong sense of keeping a clear head, trusting the bigger picture, finding balance, and staying open to what the week brings. I’m looking forward to seeing how it all unfolds.
Book I’m reading:
The Bond that Burns: I’m about halfway through this one. I’m liking it so far. It’s the second in a series about a dragon rider woman who was dropped in a vampire world, still not sure how she got there or what her back story is. A dragon finally showed up and he is pretty grumpy but it’s funny. The main character’s mom’s soul is in a dagger that she carries around. She is bonded to a vampire prince who is kind of a jerk, there is another vampire who seems interested in her. There was a pretty good spicy scene between her and the jerk vampire though so that was fun. It’s strange and a little hard to explain but I’m enjoying it enough.
Anyway, I kind of rushed through this, I was going back and forth between writing something a little deeper or just keeping it light. I am enjoying these little updates right now so that’s what I went with. I hope everyone stays safe and is enjoying their summer! Hopefully this week is kind to all of us :)
